5) HEAD’S REPORT
Linda reported
that the overall feedback to her on the Christmas Fair from parents was
positive. The only suggestion was that
perhaps the time should be changed – maybe a little too early in the day? It was agreed to look at this for both the
Summer and Christmas Fair this year.
Linda also
thinks that it would be nice to do an outdoor pursuits week for the children
involving activities such as problem solving, gardening, outdoor artwork, etc.
We would need to bring in some professionals to help and guide with this.
Linda would also
like to get some photographs of the previously proposed (see September 2006
minutes) outside water play area to send out to parents to say that is what we
are working towards raising money for.
How does PTA
feel about keep on raising money for other charities, such as shelter box, red
nose day, etc?
It was decided
that we should definitely keep MUFTI day as it is popular with the children.
Linda Crawley to
provide letter for parents re: shelter box.
6) CHRISTMAS FAIR
- Have received
some complaints about the food, people not being given a plate in order to make
a cake, etc
- Have also had
suggestions for spreading out the asking for things to be brought in so there
is not too much at once for parents to do/provide
-
Raffle tickets; some felt that they were asked to sell too many
-
The Rocking Horse should be brought back
- Need to bring
back ALL activities next year so more for the children to take part in
- Should keep
the Secret Santa separate from Fair and run as an in-school event
- Could we do
donations for unwanted presents as a way of raising extra money after Christmas
-
Choir was excellent; must do next year
-
Rolls went down well
7) CHRISTMAS SHOPPING EVENING
This was not
well attended and should be dropped for this year.
8) 2007 EVENTS
Committee needs
to look at all the events this year and assess what should be kept and what
should be dropped.

NEW EVENT – ICE SKATING
This was
suggested as a new event and it was agreed that we should go ahead and
book. Suggested dates are Sunday 18th
or 25th March. Kathryn Taits to liaise with Maggie Maddison and look
into this.
9) ANY OTHER BUSINESS
- It was decided
not to go ahead with the joint Maple/Aboyne Summer Ball this year but that it
may be something we could look at for future years. We would need to gauge the interest of parents
at our school and should send out letter to get a feel of whether it would be
acceptable to do a ball at any stage – whether it be for the school or for a
charity.
- Should we
bring back the TOWN TRAIL that we did previously as a Sunday Family event. To contact Steve Lambert to find out details.
- Could we do a
‘Flicks in the School’ event
- Could we pay
for sleep over for Year 5 at the Science Museum
- Can we look at
bringing back Apple Day this year
- Can we find
someone to organise the Summer Fair
- Need to buy
new barbeque for Summer Fair
- Gazebos need
to be looked at for this summer
- Need to look
at the purchase of a Popcorn machine for school use
- Need to look
at the Licensing requirements for school events – Margie agreed to look into this
10) NEXT MEETING
21st Feb
2007 – Aboyne Lodge Staff Room 7:30pm
ADDENDUM
ICE
SKATING
This event is run by ‘Ice Skating for
Schools’, tel: 01189 611395 or 07818 035795; www.iceskatingforschools.co.uk.
Costs are £400.00 for 4hours of standard
skating + 34p per mile fuel charge.
There is a non-refundable deposit of £50.00.
Each session last for one hour, including
changing time.
The maximum number of skaters per session
is dictated by hall size; i.e. 150 sq.metre hall = 50 skaters per hour (200 in
total for a few hours standard event).
The company will come and set everything up
and take everything down at the end.
Weekday sessions run from 15:30 onwards,
Saturdays and Sundays 12:00-16:00pm.
On top of the ticket price (advised by the
company) the school is at liberty to add a surcharge for their own funds. This is normally £1 or £2 per skater.
Additional fundraising comes from
refreshment sales. Some schools also
charge for spectators.
